About me

My passion is to help organizations create learning solutions so effective and efficient that on-the-job learning becomes second nature to employees. I love all parts of the instructional design process, everything from needs analysis through development to evaluation. I dream about helping organizations build holistic, employee-driven learning environments.

As an instructional designer, I take pride in developing effective and engaging training to improve employee performance. As a Government contractor, I have experience developing front-end analyses, instructor-led and computer-based training, and performing evaluations. I have experience developing curriculum and providing training to employees, executives, and external partners.

my take on instructional design

  • Learning needs to be authentic to promote transfer. The closer you can get the training environment to the employee's job, the easier it will be for them to implement their newly learned behavior to their daily work.

  • Learning needs to be engaging. People learn more effectively when they're actively engaged with the content.

  • Learning solutions must be be needs-based and that doesn't necessarily always involve training. A thorough front end analysis is key. Let me help you figure out what your organization needs. It could be a training session, or it could be a job aide, a collaborative working group, clearer business processes, better feedback from management - there's lots of solutions that may be a better fit for your needs. I believe if you've hired the right people, you just need to give them the tools to succeed and let them take off.

  • Use science to inform your instruction. I believe in using all resources available to inform instructional approaches to help humans learn more efficiently.

  • Less is more. I believe in highly targeted micro-lessons to help employees access just-in-time, on-the-job training.

Qualities I bring to Work

Dedication to and passion for learning new content and new skills. Here’s a list of the content I’ve worked on: elementary science, defense acquisition contracting, cyber security (red team/pen-testing), Army human resources processes, Peoplesoft, bridge construction and inspection, disaster recovery planning, and biometrics. I love developing a strong, trusting relationship with my subject matter experts to turn out fabulous online or classroom training.

Work ethic. I believe in work-life balance, but I have a strong drive to work hard and produce products that myself and my clients would be proud to share.

Joy. I am serious about learning and developing effective training, but I love to be with people and learn from others. I truly believe that people are an organization’s greatest asset. I want to work in places where I love going to work and I enjoy the people that I work with.

My Passions Outside of Work

  • Outdoorsy stuff: kayaking, camping, hiking, gardening

  • Foodie stuff: cooking, eating

  • Nerdy stuff: reading, board games, photography
